It's the Little Things...

It's no secret that at Wax Me Too Salons our number one requested service is the popular brazilian bikini wax! But what you may not know is that we have numerous appointments on our books for the littlest of things!

While we wax bikinis all day long, there is a huge demand for facial waxing. Yep, that's right folks. Facial hair on a man, well, that's ok! But facial hair on a woman...? We women tend to go a little nuts when it comes to that odd wiry hair that appears randomly on our chins, or the little fuzz of mustache that seems to grow (and glow) in the sunlight. And eyebrows! Can't have a unibrow, or a a straight line across the top of our faces can we?

Facial waxing is in high demand at Wax Me Too. One week I counted the number of brows and lips that were waxed in our Draper store. 98! 98 women came into our salon, not for their bikinis, but for their facial hair!

While it is simple to pop into any salon, beauty or hair salon and have your facial hair removed you really should explore your options and chose a salon that meets your strict standards. Facial waxing isn't expensive. A decent eyebrow design will cost anywhere from $15 to $20. For a full list of prices, you can visit our website here.

Just the other day, I was in a nail salon having a last minute pedicure. A mother and her two teenage daughters came in and asked for brow waxes. As a salon owner, I was very interested in the procedures and observed quietly.

The first teenager sat into the pedicure chair and had wax (which was too thin and hot) quickly swiped across her lower brows, upper brows and in the middle. The technician then pressed the muslin to her skin and rip rip rip rip rip. 5 rips. The service was done in just under one minute.

The girl howled in pain, the technician looked a little worried and started to apply lotion. She said..."it's normal to be red". Meanwhile, the teenager didn't look convinced. The mother then, showing a modicum of concern, said "She is really really red. She's is using accutane."

A big red flag! Folks using accutane ( an anti-acne medication) NEVER EVER should wax. Why? Because it rips the skin right off and causes a lot of pain to the one being waxed.

First mistake, the waxer didn't ask for the girls history. If she had, and if she knew her business, she would know that the teenager was not a good candidate for waxing. Second mistake, the waxer didn't design the teens brows, she didn't take care to look at what would work best for her face, she just applied the wax and ripped it off.

My point is, you can get facial hair removal anywhere. You can have your brows threaded (but we will leave that for another post) You can have your lip hair removed with honey wax, blue wax, hard wax, soft wax, wax that smells like chocolate. That fur on the sides of your face, easy to de fuzz!

When you wax at a Wax Me Too salon you can be sure that we will first, make sure you are a good candidate for wax by asking you your history of meds and topicals, second, cleanse your skin before applying any wax, third, test the wax to make sure its not too hot which can cause burning, and lastly, make sure we are correctly shaping your eyebrow, removing the right hairs without damaging your skin.

Wax Your Underarms!

With the coming of spring, more and more women (and men) are preparing for better weather with underarm waxing.

At Wax Me Too Salons we see in increase in requests for other areas of waxing (than our number one requested service, the brazilian-bikini) such as the underarms, legs, and tummys!

So why wax your underarms? Well, to start off, there are many benefits to waxing. First and foremost is that it is completely unlike shaving. With shaving, you must reach for your razor every day. With waxing, the hair is removed from the follicle and a brand new baby hair must grow! And let me tell you, it doesn't grow back at super sonic speed, it grows back slow. Waxing hair from any part of your body ensures a slow regrowth! What could be better?

Secondly, with waxing, your regrowth will not only be slower, but the hair coming in will be thinner. Some women notice with shaving they get a 5 o'clock shadow. Because we are removing the hair from the root, the shadow is eliminated!

Are you one of those gals with 2 and 3 hairs in each follicle? With waxing, you will eliminate the thickness as all hairs can be removed by the root!

And lastly, the best reason to wax your underarms is to be hairless and shadow free all summer. Undearm waxing takes only minutes.

A typical client coming in for an underarm wax, just like the brazilian, is only booked at about 15 minutes, which gives us plenty to time to talk and catch up.

Your esthetician will ask you to lay on the table and stretch your arms out overhead. A cleanser is applied first. Next, the wax is applied --the esthetician will determine which direction your hair grows in order to pull the hair from the correct angle.

Yep, it stings just a little but before you have time to blink, your esthetician will place her oiled gloved hand onto the skin and voila...the stinging stops.

Most undearms require two to three strips of wax and a little tweezing afterwards. Remember we are perfectionist and will do what we can to get all the hairs.

To get the best wax possible, it's good to have at least 7 days worth of growth. Remember, the longer the hair the better the wax. So, if you can stand it, let it grow for 10 days to 2 weeks!

Waxing for hair removal is the way to go. It's fast, it's affordable and it lasts. Now is a good time to start for summer. Keep in mind, the more waxes you have, up to a point, the longer you will have between regrowth!

As in waxing all areas of the body, it does take about 3 waxing sessions to remove all the grown-up hairs and to get your hair growth cycles in sync with one another. After your third wax, you will notice a longevity between the time you waxed and when you are ready for another wax.

Join us on facebook...Wax Me Too Facebook. We always run contests and freebees and giveaways. This week, we are offering one lucky fan FREE underarm waxing for 3 months! Not only that, our facebook fan can also win the same deal for one of her friends.

Ready for an underarm wax, just call us at Wax Me Too Salons. We have 5 locations throughout Utah. Come see us in Layton, Salt Lake City, Draper, Orem, and St. George!

Waxing, The Battle Between Hard Wax and Soft Wax

Hard wax companies have done a brilliant job in touting the merits of hard wax versus soft wax when doing a brazilian waxing service, but the fact is, hard wax can be difficult to use, it's time consuming, it isn't as effective in hair removal, it causes more pain to the client, and can be expensive.

The companies that produce hard wax have sold the Esthetics industry as well as the general public on the benefits of hard wax through their claims to be "more gentle" on the skin and as effective in hair removal.

At Wax Me Too Salons, we beg to differ. Our expert brazilian waxers, trained in the art of brazilian waxing through the use of the "brazilian technique" would much rather use soft wax 99% of the time.

Yes, even in that particular area which is "supposed" to be so difficult to wax!

We do over 2000 brazilian waxes each month...with brazilian waxing being our number 1 requested service. We should probably rename ourselves The Brazilian Waxing Salon but we are rather addicted to the name Wax Me Too! (We do lots of legs, brows, backs and more..."from brows to toes & anything in between" ) But I digress.

Back to the debate of hard wax vs soft. When hard wax is applied, it has a "set up" period. It goes onto the skin in a warm smooth layer. And then you wait. And wait ...for it to harden so that it can be peeled off in one swoop (or two or three depending on the length) It's the peeling off part that has most clients on edge. Why? Because the esthetician must flick up the edge of the wax and then pull.

Now, that being said, there are those out there who are very proficient in hard wax usage. I, myself, took a 2 day class in Arizona on the usage of hard wax and am very comfortable with the application and the flick!

I just know that soft wax is "that" much easier and better to use. Someone not very proficient with the hard wax can make several painful mistakes...such as applying the wax into a hairy section of the body. When you go to "flick" the wax, you pull hair! Not good for the client.
In the lip area of the brazilian wax, hair can grow in different directions. It can be coarse, thick, difficult to remove. With hard wax, it is almost impossible to remove all the hair in one swoop or one fluid pull. It often takes two pulls and again...ouch for the client. Often, a reapplication of wax is needed.

With soft wax, the wax is applied, a thin piece of muslin is laid over the wax, pressure is used to ensure the muslin and wax adhere and then in one swift quick movement, the wax, the muslin and the hair are removed!

A skilled esthetician will not remove skin, will wax quickly and efficiently and cause minimal pain to the client. Becoming a competent waxer is like anything else in life when when you strive to be the best. The more you use a particular type of wax the more comfortable you will be with the wax, the more you educate yourself on your product and the more you do a particular service, the more expert you become.

At Wax Me Too salons, each esthetician is comfortable using soft wax. We do thousands of brazilians and have clients from all over the four corners of Utah, clients who come other states such as Wyoming, Idaho, and Nevada...we know what we are doing and we do it well.

We make safety, sanitation and education our priority to ensure that our clients receive the best in customer service and the best waxing service in Utah. We have both hard wax and soft wax in our salon.

Come on in, let us show you the difference between the two waxes and we will make you a fan of plain uncomplicated soft wax!

Brazilian Waxing and Vajazzles! A New Way to Body Bling

Body Bling and brazilian waxing are Utah women's most requested service when booking at a Wax Me Too Salon!

Jennifer Love Hewitt made Vajazzling an instant rage when she announced on the Jimmy Kimmel show that she once had Swarovski Crystal designs placed on her freshly waxed "brazilian-bikini". He dropped to his knees.

Clients at Wax Me Too tied up our phone lines wanting to know when we would offer this trendy, sexy, and if you really think about it, funny, new sort of body bling. Wax Me Too Salons now offer their clients a wide array of various designs and colors of pretty Swarovski crystals to be placed....well, actually anywhere you have skin.

A common misconception is that they are placed in an area of the body where the sun will never shine! Come on folks, crystals down there? Think bikini line, think hip bone, think buttock cheeks. But, the most popular place is just above the pubic bone giving your partner a very unexpected sexy surprise.

Swarovski crystal designs are best when placed on freshly waxed skin. Hence, after a brazilian or bikini waxing service, the designs are strategically placed on your skin and will last anywhere from 3 to 5 days ...(with some clients saying they've lasted up to two weeks).

At Wax Me Too Salons, the Vajazzles are offered as an additional service to our clients. Unlike New York Salons, Wax Me Too designs are a mere $10.00 per design, making it affordable for anyone wanting to try out this fun new way of body decoration.

A Vajazzle can be applied in under five minutes. All the designs are pre-created, all you have to do is peel and stick the design onto your clean skin. While they apply best to freshly waxed skin, don't let it deter you that your last wax was a few weeks ago....want some body bling, add a Vajazzle. Like waxing, Vajazzling is fun and sexy and offers an element of surprise to the unsuspecting!

For the Bride! The Brazilian Honeymoon

And she wants a Brazilian honeymoon! At Wax Me Too Salon we help hundreds of Utah brides prepare for their special day. Brazilian waxing is our number one requested service and quite often we are found by local brides in anticipation of having a hair free honeymoon.

No, you don't need a passport because I'm not talking about going to Brazil.

We have many brides call us because they are anxious to have a brazilian waxing service done right before their big day and night!

A brazilian wax is sexy and fun and very exciting.
We do, however, recommend that you don't leave this treatment until the last minute. Come and see us 4-5weeks before your wedding for your first waxing experience. The reason for this lies in the fact that the first time you have a brazilian or bikini wax your skin can be a little tender. Although the risk is slight, until we've waxed you the first time, we can not be sure that you will not have an allergic reaction to the wax.

Having done at least one wax before your wedding wax will grant you peace of mind. You know what to expect! For best results, ie: less hair and slower regrowth... it is a great idea to have 1 to 2 waxes under your belt ( haha...you know what I mean) before your important day. Schedule your second wax 2 to 3 days before the wedding and feel confident that your Brazilian honeymoon will be everything you wanted it to be.
Don't worry though if somehow "brazilian" waxing didn't make it into your wedding planner. You don't have time for two waxes before the wedding? All is not lost. We will take great care of you. We would like you to come see us 3 to 4 days before the wedding and we promise to tell you everything you need to know on how to care for your skin and keep your skin looking beautiful for your big day.
Our brides are special to Wax Me Too. We even have a full page dedicated to you on our website.

Some fun little facts about Utah brides and Wax Me Too are
a) we get a bridal surge just after Christmas and right before Valentine's Day
b) most of our brides come from the Provo/Orem area
c) BYU brides come in groups of three
d) most brides wax for their future husbands...most brides come back AFTER the wedding for themselves! e) most brides come to their first appointment with their best friend
f) most brides honeymoon in warm places
g) most brides become addicted to Brazilian waxing and become lifelong clients of Wax Me Too.

If you are a bride wanting to brazilian wax make sure you find a salon that specializes in the brazilian. You want to wax with a licensed esthetician that is trained in waxing and knows what she is doing. (It will not benefit you to be waxed by someone who has only done a few brazilian waxes in her lifetime! Don't be someones practice wax) Sanitation is a must. Make sure your waxer never ever double dips into the wax pot. Can't think of anything more yucky than being waxed with a stick that was used on the client before you. Education. If you are new to waxing, you will want to know how to take care of your newly waxed skin after your service. Believe it or not, there are a list of do's and don'ts.

A bride getting waxed is different than just your average woman coming in for a waxing. Why? Well, because as a bride you are preparing for the big event. You want that day to be perfect. When you select your caterer, you choose very carefully. Same with photographer, same with your waxer. Don't leave a wedding brazilian wax up to chance.
Come see us at Wax Me Too where brazilian waxing is our number one requested service. Waxing, it's what we do, all day long, 7 days a week from early to late. We have five easy to get to locations in St. George, Draper, Salt Lake City, Layton and most recently Orem!

How to Bikini Wax

At Wax Me Too Salons we have a lot of clients tell us they have tried (most often with unfortunate results) how to do a bikini wax at home. This attempt leads them to the internet where they find us and come in for a quick fix.

First let me say that I do not recommend anyone who is not an expert waxer, try to wax themselves at home. Waxing, although may look simple enough, is an acquired skill.

When you come in for a bikini wax at a Wax Me Too salon, you will be treated with the utmost care and caution. First, you will be asked to fill out a client consult form. We want to make sure our client isn't using any medications such as accutane ( an anti acne medicine) which can cause a thinning of skin ( making waxing disastrous and dangerous). We also want to know about past waxing experiences and if you had bruising or tearing of the skin during a wax. This alerts us to 2 interesting things. 1. You had a bad wax with someone who didn't know how to wax properly or 2. You have extremely sensitive skin and we will proceed with caution!

After determining that you are a great candidate for waxing, we will usher you into a private very clean treatment room where you will (in privacy) be asked to undress from the waist down and get onto the treatment table--cover up your private area. We are very respectful of our clients and use pristine towels to cover up the bikini area, uncovering only to apply wax and remove the hair.

Your basic bikini is a great option for anyone new to waxing. Many people fear waxing ( I mean, we are "ripping" hair from your follicle). A basic bikini wax will include hair removal from both sides of the leg area...the inside of the thigh to the outside. Imagine putting on your bathing suit bottom....and any hair you can see outside of the elastic and fabric, we will remove. We will also remove hair that is just below the belly button, just to be sure no stray hairs pop out over the top of your swim suit.

Utah is home to many athletes and outdoors folks! We have beautiful spring and summers, an abundance of lakes in which to swim and boat, and places to hike and be one with nature!

Waxing is a popular option when it comes to hair removal. It is also very cost effective. For prices on all waxing, feel free to visit our website.

At Wax Me Too we give away alot of FREE bikini waxes. Simply visit our website and enter to win a free bikini wax.

So, how to bikini wax? It's easy. Just visit us at a Wax Me Too Salon in Layton, Draper, Salt Lake City, Orem or St. George!

Some Helpful Advice with Achieving the Perfect Eyebrow Shape

At Wax Me Too Salons, we take your eyebrows very seriously. They require much discussion, consideration, and contemplation. Because brows frame your face, enhance the "windows to your soul"-- your eyes, and are often one of the first body parts another will notice about you, we want to make sure that a client coming in for a brow wax (brow design) receives the attention they deserve.

In esthetics and cosmetology school the student is taught some fundamental elements to brow waxing along with the mantra that a brow wax should take 15 minutes top! Brows are often considered a small add on service to any salon treatment and take minimal time and effort.

WRONG! At Wax Me Too Salons we feel that a brow wax and a brow design, although perceived as one in the same, are two separate entities that go hand in hand. The wax, without the design, can be a huge failure, leaving the client with a whole slew of issues that would be, unfortunately, visible to anyone looking at her /his face.

We often find that a client coming in for a brow design requires more time than a Brazilian waxing client. (15 minutes for a Brazilian wax--a bit longer for a first time brow design) The slap wax on, rip hair out approach to brows is passe and any salon cosmo or esthie who does not discuss your brow design with you before applying wax, should raise a red flag.

At Wax Me Too we take pleasure in the shaping of eyebrows. When you first visit with us for an eyebrow design we will discuss the current shape (and state) of your brows and offer our advice on how to achieve the best look for your face and the brows you have. Before any wax is applied, our client knows the goals we will work towards and can then sit back, relax and enjoy the flight (opps, retired flight attendant here...)I meant-- enjoy the wax.

Enjoy the wax? How can that be possible you may ask, after all, aren't you ripping hair from my follicle? Interestingly enough, most clients enjoy having their brows shaped. Our salon beds are firm and comfortable and our client gets to lay back, close their eyes, and relax a little while gentle cleansing is done to the brows and the brow comb is run through the fine strands of hair. ( We use a brow comb to sufficiently note which hairs go in which direction and which hairs need to be removed). Warm wax is applied. Notice the word warm. We do not use HOT wax. Hot wax causes trauma to the skin. Gentle pressure is applied, the pull is quick, and the tingle you feel is lessened by pressure from our fingers on waxed skin.

Great brows can not be achieved through waxing alone. This is the one main reason Wax Me Too Salons book a first time brow wax for a half hour appointment. After the initial shape is designed through waxing, the esthetician will pick up her tweezers and fine tune your brow. We can create a perfect arch in the perfect spot with tweezers.

Some interesting tidbits about brows... Brows are not twins, they are not identical, and in many cases can never be shaped identically. Brows are sisters! That being said, your brows should look very similar to one another to the naked eye. There is no excuse for an esthetician who makes your brows lopsided or uneven! Many people have scars on their brow line. I am never surprised to find a thin scar when I run a brow comb through the hair...how many of us have fallen at the age of 2? Another interesting find, many people pull out their eyebrows with their fingers ( a nervous habit) and in some cases have thinned the brow to the point the hair no longer grows!

How can you get the perfect brow design? Well if you live in Utah, come to a Wax Me Too esthetician, if not, look for these indicators.

1. Ask for a consultation. No wax should be applied until you have discussed the brow you have, its faults and attributes, the brow you want, and how you will get it.
2. Ask if the esthetican will fine tune the brow with tweezers. ( It is very rare that tweezers need not be used)

Most common mistakes:
1. The estie thins the brows too much

2. The middle (unibrow area) is taken too far to the outer part of your face
3. Wax is hot which can cause burning or tearing of skin
4. The skin is not held taut when the wax/hair is removed and can cause tearing of skin
4. The esthethetician does not ask the client if she is using products (such as Retin A) on her skin which can cause tearing
5. The client wants Christina Aguilera brows
5. The esthetician promises the client Christina Aguilera brows but the client is not Christina Aguilera

Eyebrow design is not rocket science, but it is a little more complicated than slapping on wax and ripping off hair. Having your brows professionally designed is easy and affordable. Most brows designs cost a mere $15.00 yet can offer you a month of beautiful brows, give you an arch where one was needed, allow you a instant eye lift, and frame the windows to your soul! Never had an eyebrow design?

Today is a good day to try one.
